Know Your Gear's Functions By Heart

Psychology is a crucial element in portrait photography. Understanding body language and how to communicate and motivate your subject is 80 percent of the work involved in making a great image.
So, how are you able to concentrate on this 80%? Or, the other way around, what are the 20% missing here?Well, the other 20% of your photography is the technical foundation you need to know in order to take great people pictures. What that means is you need to know your equipment and function by heart. Think about it. When you get in a car, you don't think, "How do I drive the car?" You put the key in, you turn it, and you pay attention to the road, your directions, and the other traffic, but you are not thinking about how to use that vehicle. The same goes for all of your gear. You have to have a good grasp of your stuff to concentrate on communication and building rapport with your subject. You must learn how to use any gear by heart. Period.[molongui_author_box profile_layout="layout-7"]
